Morph #1: The Awakening [action]

[Action/The Barracks]

[Rachel awakens to find herself in a large building, wearing a rather hideous sundress and nothing else. More distressingly, she discovers that she has wings. Eagle wings. For a moment, she's afraid she's been trapped partway in morph, but a moment of experimentation shows that she's still able to at least begin morphing.

And then after another moment, she remembers that she's dead. Is this heaven? I mean, wings and a white dress seems like heaven, but some grungy building sure doesn't. Where is she? What the heck is going on? She can't morph in this dress, and she can't walk around as a human with eagle wings- what if a Controller sees her?

So she casts a look around to make sure nobody's nearby, and then she shucks off the dress and slowly begins morphing into the shape of a bald eagle. It's a long, slow process, and she's still woozy and disoriented. She just hopes she isn't interrupted.]

[Action/The Plaza and the Clothing Store.]

[An eagle with a second set of wings tucked behind the first is soaring around the plaza, looking through windows, a white New Feather dress clutched in her claws. As soon as she locates the clothing store, she'll fly inside and begin browsing. Just a bird out shopping. Nothing to see here.]

[Action/Town]

[Once she's stolen obtained some new clothing and morphed into a human again, a strange girl will be walking around town, staring at everything with a mixture of confusion and dismay. Heaven, so far, sucks. A lot. Especially since everything seems to be half-pilfered from the middle ages, and half the people walking around are weird. It's almost like somebody crossed a ren faire and one of those nerd conventions. She could swear she saw a guy dressed like Spock running around.]

Hermes goes further back up the wall. Just in case of bear. "Is Luceti," he says, skin flickering in orange and pink. "Is unknown where, is village and forest away from other places. People get taken here, don't know how. All have wings."

[xenamorphs]

-The wings I noticed. Who runs this place?-

[Because whoever they were, they were in serious need of a butt-kicking.]

"Malnosso? Dunno." Hermes did not particularly care, since the leadership of Chicago had also not been an important figure in his life. He'd heard of the abductions but assumes that they will not apply to tiny little him.

Hermes finds a perch for himself on a window ledge. "Are normal bear? Never seen talking bear."

[xenamorphs]

-Never seen a talking octopus. I figure that makes us even. What's a Malnosso?-

[eightlazylegs]

"Dunno. Aliens? Weird things."

[xenamorphs]

[Aliens. That figured.]

-What kind of aliens? Are we talking, like, blue centaurs, or brain slugs, or eight-foot walking razorblades?-

[eightlazylegs]

[Uh...no. Rachel gets the octo-sideeye for that.]

No. Definitely. Are high?

[xenamorphs]

-I'm talking to an octopus with wings. You really want me to answer that?-

[eightlazylegs]

Yes. Am real. Blue centaurs less so.

[xenamorphs]

-It was a blue centaur that let me turn into a bear to begin with. They're a race of aliens. Look, if these Malnosso aliens aren't aliens, who are they?-

[eightlazylegs]

Dunno. Dangerous, come and take you away and do bad things. Try to avoid.

Can bear get high? Have seen dogs get high.

[xenamorphs]

-What kind of a jerk gets a dog high?-

[Dangerous enemies that abducted people. That sounded familiar.

Some things never change, it seems.]

Person took drug. Drug comes out in sweat. Dog licks sweat, becomes high.

[Why is he discussing this with a bear? Hermes has no idea what sentient bears do in their spare time, so he might as well.]

[xenamorphs]

-Ugh. Bad enough people do that stuff without inflicting it on their pets, even by accident. Jerks.-

[eightlazylegs]

Was pet. Made off pretty well, except when Boss put smoke everywhere.

[xenamorphs]

-Hey, I don't hate people who keep pets, I'm not some kind of animal nut or anything.... so. How do I get out of here?-

[eightlazylegs]

Of course not animal nut. Are bear who sees blue centaurs. [In a rather sarcastic tone indicating Hermes finds her both animal and nut.]

Out of woods? Walk. Out of area? No idea.

[xenamorphs]

-That's not what I meant by- oh, forget it. Look, you're a talking octopus with wings and you're talking to a telepathic bear, and you're gonna tell me you don't believe there are aliens that look like blue centaurs?-

[eightlazylegs]

Can see bear, why not believe? But alien blue centaurs, have not seen. Will believe when seen.

[Octopus philosophy is not particularly complicated.]
