Morph #1: The Awakening [action]

[Action/The Barracks]

[Rachel awakens to find herself in a large building, wearing a rather hideous sundress and nothing else. More distressingly, she discovers that she has wings. Eagle wings. For a moment, she's afraid she's been trapped partway in morph, but a moment of experimentation shows that she's still able to at least begin morphing.

And then after another moment, she remembers that she's dead. Is this heaven? I mean, wings and a white dress seems like heaven, but some grungy building sure doesn't. Where is she? What the heck is going on? She can't morph in this dress, and she can't walk around as a human with eagle wings- what if a Controller sees her?

So she casts a look around to make sure nobody's nearby, and then she shucks off the dress and slowly begins morphing into the shape of a bald eagle. It's a long, slow process, and she's still woozy and disoriented. She just hopes she isn't interrupted.]

[Action/The Plaza and the Clothing Store.]

[An eagle with a second set of wings tucked behind the first is soaring around the plaza, looking through windows, a white New Feather dress clutched in her claws. As soon as she locates the clothing store, she'll fly inside and begin browsing. Just a bird out shopping. Nothing to see here.]

[Action/Town]

[Once she's stolen obtained some new clothing and morphed into a human again, a strange girl will be walking around town, staring at everything with a mixture of confusion and dismay. Heaven, so far, sucks. A lot. Especially since everything seems to be half-pilfered from the middle ages, and half the people walking around are weird. It's almost like somebody crossed a ren faire and one of those nerd conventions. She could swear she saw a guy dressed like Spock running around.]

[Spock was walking across the plaza... back from the incident with the kitten and the agents.

He was looking around as well... it was good to have his sight back. What he noticed though was a girl...

...obviously distressed.
He approaches her....]

Greetings, you appear to be distressed... are you in need of assistance?

[Hey, the trekkie was back. He'd done a pretty good job on his costume, too, but after three years of fighting real aliens, the guys with fake rubber foreheads on TV just stopped being impressive.]

"Hey, sorry. Uh. Can you, um, tell me where I am?"

[spohkh]

[Spock tilted his head in curiosity...

Ah yes... this must be the 'New Feather' wave that others have been talking about.


...Fascinating.

Spock bows his head in politeness.]

You are in Luceti. A rather curious place that has the ability to take people from various universes and put them in this one location. Currently we are held at the mercy of a rather unfortunate race called the Malnosso... who have a tendency to...well... [Spock actually stops himself...

...he does not want to alarm the girl on what was presumably her first day.]

All pertinent information should be available in the device... or journal that has been provided to you upon your arrival. I encourage you to explore its contents.
May I inquire as to your name?

[Journal? Crap, she hadn't even looked for a journal. Did she leave it in the building where she woke up?

And then he asks for her name. She freezes up. The Controllers know her name now. This guy could be one of them. She stammers out the first answer that comes to mind.]

"M-Melissa. Melissa Chapman."

[spohkh]

[Spock... does not 'buy it'...


...He has been lied to like this before. However, it will do neither of them any good to call her out on it. If she is uncomfortable around him or is feeling threatened... he may as well try his best to make her feel better about her surroundings.

Spock bows a bit at the waist.]

It is well to make your acquaintance Miss Chapman, I am Spock. I was taken from my Universe and placed here approximately 4 month ago. [He lifts an eyebrow...]

Do you not have your journal?

"You're Spock, huh? That's cute. Seriously, though, what's going on?"

[spohkh]

[Spock tilts his head in slight confusion...]

I find it most interesting that there are always those who disbelieve that I am who I say I am...

[Spock shifts his stance so that he is everything an imposing Vulcan should be... back straight, hands behind his back...]
Would you rather I say that all of this is an elaborate prank put on just for you...
I can assure you Miss Chapman that this is not a joke and should be taken with much seriousness.

[Spock's expression softens...] Though I must admit... for you first day, you are handling it rather well.

"Yeah. Let's say I've seen my share of weird stuff."

[She meets the imposing gaze with a distinctly unimpressed stare.]

"So this isn't a joke? Alright then."

[Tensing herself to run, her voice is level and matter-of-fact when she speaks.]

"Andalite."

Big purple Centaur? I think not... XD

[Spock tilts his head to the other side...]

I beg your pardon?

[xenamorph]

[Well, he didn't immediately try to kill or capture her, so probably not a Controller. Still, it didn't hurt to be careful.]

"Just a test. Okay, so there should have been a journal nearby when I woke up. And we're from... different universes. Because of the Milanos."

[spohkh]

What is an Andalite?

[Spock's mouth twitches in small half-smile...]

Malnosso.... Shall I assist you in finding your journal?

[xenamorph]

"They're kinda... alien centaur scorpion things. And I think I left the journal back where I woke up. I don't really remember where that was, it was a little ways out of this... village."

[Also she flew from there, not that she's telling Spock that.]

[spohkh]

I see.. [Spock did not look that impressed... he was used to meeting alien life on a regular basis after all...]

Do you know from which direction? It would be imperative for you to retrieve this device...

[xenamorph]

"I, uh. I don't remember. It almost looked like an old-timey fort or barracks or something?"

[Couldn't remember what direction she had flown in from. If Tobias were here, she would never hear the end of it.]

[spohkh]

That would indeed be the Barracks that is located south of here...

It should not take a substantial amount of time to get to that location. [Spock gestures down the path...]

Shall we?

"Oh, uh, sure. If it's not too much trouble."

[Weird. People weren't just this nice.]

[spohkh]

Not at all... I was merely returning to my home to meet with my Captain...

...but he can wait. [Spock really didn't mind keeping Jim waiting..

...Spock leads her along the path towards the south end of town.]

[xenamorph]

"... I guess, if you're sure."

[In her experience, keeping the leader waiting tended to annoy them, but then, Jake didn't call a meeting unless it was important. Also he was kind of uptight sometimes. Not that she blamed him. He had every reason to be.

She starts following... 'Spock' along the path without a word.]

[spohkh]

[Spock addresses his companion...]

I am certain. Captain Kirk keeps a rather lax schedule since entering Luceti... [Most people would get that impression on the ship as well... but that is a common misconception.]

I cannot help but feel as though you still do not believe I am who I say I am...

"Don't take it personally. A lot of people tell me stuff that's hard to believe."

[spohkh]

I do not. [There are not many things out there that Spock takes 'personally'....]

I must admit though... that Luceti can be rather difficult to become accustomed to. [Spock nods towards the Barracks as they near the it...And addresses his companion.]

Does this look familiar Miss Chapman?

"Yeah. Yeah, this is the place."

[She hurries inside to the corner where she'd woken up, checking around the scenery for any sort of journal, but she's looking in the wrong place- the book, bearing the name "Rachel Berenson" in rather visible lettering, is actually out in the middle of the room in plain sight.]

[spohkh]

[Spock followed behind Miss Chapman into the Barracks and looked around as she headed to the corner with purpose.

.....That is when he spotted another journal... with the wrong name on it.

He picked it up with a look of curiosity... and amusement.]

"Rachel Berenson"... interesting. It would seem that someone else has lost their journal as well. [Spock tucked the journal under his arm...] I will return this to the welcome center so that they may locate the owner.

[If Vulcan's could give an evil little grin... Spock would be doing so.]

[xenamorph]

[As soon as he says her name, she freezes. Options race through her mind. The immediate instinct is to attack, but she has no way of knowing he's actually a threat. She could run, maybe, but where would she go? Here? Out in the middle of nowhere, in some freaky lab experiment?

... Of course, if she really was in some freaky lab experiment... she wouldn't be in danger from the Yeerks anyway. And this guy wasn't attacking her or anything. A Controller would have recognized the name. Would have tried to kill or capture her immediately

And if this wasn't some freaky lab experiment, then how was she alive?

She sighs and turns to face him.]

"... Look, sorry. About the name. Just... where I'm from, a lot of people want to kill or capture me. Bad people. I'm a little paranoid."

[She frowns, trying hard not to think about the fact that her first instinct was to try and hurt this guy when he probably isn't a threat at all.]

[spohkh]

[Spock nods his head, amusement gleaming in his eyes but otherwise showing no other emotion.

He hands the journal to Rachel.]

That is quite alright Miss Berenson, I can understand your actions. And you have no reason to fear me, I am Vulcan, and a Starfleet officer.... I would not hurt you.

[His eyebrows twitch in concern....] That is.... a most unfortunate situation...
You will find Luceti to be... different. There is little to no crime... and the people 'come together' due to our shared arrangement.
